Double Win for SWFCCP at Sheffield Youth Awards 2024!
Sheffield Wednesday FC Community Programme is delighted to have received two awards at the Sheffield Youth Awards 2024!
On Monday, 4th November, staff from Sheffield Wednesday FC Community Programme (SWFCCP) attended the Sheffield Youth Awards, hosted by Sheffield Community Youth Services.
This annual event highlights the exceptional work done by young people across Sheffield over the past 12 months. Among the winners was SWFCCP’s very own Nathan Spink, who won the Individual Community Champion Award for his work with SWFCCP!
His involvement with SWFCCP began when he was just eight years old, attending Premier League Kicks sessions at Winn Gardens. Since then, he has become a dedicated volunteer, assisting in sessions, mentoring young people, and leading by example. His commitment has led to a role as a casual coach with SWFCCP.
Nathan’s former teacher and sports lead at Seven Hills School said: “Nathan, a past student and now volunteer at Seven Hills School, has made a huge impact during his time with us. He has many amazing qualities and acts as a perfect role model for our students. He constantly breaks down barriers and pushes students to be the best versions of themselves every day. Nathan is always eager to learn and develop his skills, often offering new sporting initiatives to our students. He has been leading PE lessons and coaching students at Seven Hills as part of the SWFCCP After-school Club sessions. He is now an integral part of the PE team and a much-loved and respected member of Seven Hills School.”
Everyone at SWFCCP couldn’t be prouder of Nathan and the progress he has made. Moreover, he wasn’t the only SWFCCP team member in the spotlight. Molly Bulmer and Jacob Walkland also took to the stage to accept the Equality and Diversity Award for the incredible One Goal project, which launched earlier this year.
The One Goal project, funded by the South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Fund, uses the appeal of football to educate young men and empower women. Through targeted workshops, Youth Mentors showcase prominent female sporting role models to inspire positive behavioural change in young men and raise awareness of the harmful impacts of misogyny and domestic abuse.
Molly Bulmer, Youth Mentor at SWFCCP said: “It was an honour to see the hard work and dedication of the young people gain recognition and highlight to others the issues related to violence against women and girls. The impact the group have made in such a short space of time is inspiring and continual efforts like this can bring about positive societal change and improve the experience of women and girls in future.”
