SWFCCP Receives Grant to Help Reduce Violence Against Women

Sheffield Wednesday FC Community Programme (SWFCCP) is pleased to announce it has received funding from the South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Fund to help reduce violence against women.

With the grant, SWFCCP aims to harness the appeal of football to establish a youth forum dedicated to educating young men and empowering women. Through targeted workshops, Youth Mentors will highlight prominent female sporting role models to inspire behavioural changes in young men and raise awareness about the negative impacts of misogyny and domestic abuse.

Each workshop will be followed by integrated football sessions for both males and females, promoting gender equality. These sessions will also encourage young people to challenge and address negative male behaviour, fostering a more inclusive and respectful community.

The Youth Forum will also work closely with representatives from South Yorkshire Constabulary to identify specific issues faced by women and girls in the community and propose solutions to tackle them.

Jacob Walkland, Youth and Integration Coordinator at SWFCCP, said: "We want young people to lead this project, putting them at its core. Together we can drive a shift towards equality, helping to change behaviours and catch early signs that might lead to violence."
