Sheffield Wednesday Peer Researchers create amnesty bin to help reduce youth violence!

Over the last two years, Peer Researchers from both; Sheffield Wednesday FC and Bradford City FC have tackled youth violence through the Peer Action Collective (PAC) project. With more than 1,500 young people engaged across anti-social behaviour and anti-knife crime workshops, 1-1 interviews and youth focus group sessions, the project aims to give young people a voice and ask them: 'What positive steps can be achieved to help end youth violence?'

Now, after spending four months working with Young Offenders Institute HMP Wetherby, the Peer Researchers have put together a social action project to help reduce the number of dangerous weapons both in prisons and across the region.

To achieve this goal, young people from across sessions delivered by SWFCCP have come together to design an amnesty bin which will anonymously allow young people to dispose of dangerous weapons. The bin will first spend time on each wing of HMP Wetherby before being circulated around youth sessions in Sheffield.

Jacob Walkland, PAC Coordinator said: "We hope that by doing this, we can create positive changes across the local community to reduce youth violence and knife crime in Sheffield."
