Sheffield Wednesday Football Club have launched a new campaign to tackle sexual abuse and violence in Sheffield.

The campaign comes as part of the youth led project called Your Voice, Your Choice, which has been designed to develop research and create social action in the community.

SWFCCP have recruited six peer researchers to explore a variety of issues related to crime and violence, with the first major campaign being how to spread awareness around sexual abuse and sexual violence.

Kasey Cole, 21, SWFCCP’s Peer Researcher, said: “I want this project to have an impact on young people’s lives that benefits them and gives them the chance to say their thoughts and values.”

Interactive workshops have been delivered to schools and colleges in Sheffield on the Sexual Abuse and Violence Awareness campaign, with the sessions being labelled a huge success.

Jacob Walkland, SWFCCP’s Peer Action Collective Coordinator, said: “These workshops and sessions have been really positive, with a large number of students informing us of wanting to help us create a change and raise awareness within the community.”

The sexual abuse and violence campaign comes as part of SWFC and SWFCCP’s joint effort to get involved with the UK’s national Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week (7th – 14th February).

A week designed to help raise awareness and provide an opportunity for any organisation or individual to engage in dialogue.

Aaron Richmond, 22, SWFCCP’s Peer Researcher, said: “I feel this project will be a good way for me to connect and understand the young people in local areas. I want to give the young people the chance to impact their local area in a positive way.”

On Wednesday 16th the peer researchers will be raising money for the Survivors Trust through a cycling event outside the club megastore.

The event will see how much distance they can cover in two minutes on a bike.

This will be open to fans to have a go and get involved before the Accrington Stanley game, with the winner receiving a signed shirt.
