Since September 2020 we have been working across Sheffield to provide children and adults with SEN opportunities to take part in Football session. This could be during school time or community sessions outside of school too.
We are currently working with 7 primary/ secondary schools and over 200 participants to provide football as a tool to get active, learn new skills and increase confidence and social skills.
The sessions are based solely around football each week working on a different topic for dribbling, passing, shooting and lots of fun games to keep participants engaged.
Participants we work with have a range of SEN and seeing the confidence and the skill range grow every week is what we look for and this is growing all the time.
The schools we are currently working in are Gleadless primary, Fox Hill Primary, Acres Hill Primary, Pipworth Community Primary, Malin Bridge Primary, Herritage Park and Wybourn Primary.
In the future now Covid restrictions are easing and when we get the green light too, we will be hosting football tournaments within schools and the community to engage with more participants in a fun and friendly environment
Our current community session is a inclusive football session with a wide variety of age ranges who already play for teams in and around the Sheffield area and in a league set up. This is an extra training session for them to take part in and our number have grown from 8 in September to 20 currently. During these sessions we work on fundamental football skills, implement small tactics sessions as well as small, sided games at the end
We are hoping to continue our work in these schools and thank them for supporting our Every Player counts Programme at Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme
