Following the success of our first Traineeship programme, Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme’s second cohort of Trainee’s had a pleasant surprise today as members of the first team undertook a training session on the pitch at Hillsborough stadium. Down below their classroom, an executive box, these three trainees managed to grab a quick photo with some of the squad.

SWFCCP’s Traineeship course commenced on Monday 21st January and will run for 13 weeks. The short course aims to provide opportunities to those who are aged 19-24 and who are not currently in education, employment or training.

The Traineeship course, which is based at Hillsborough stadium, Sheffield consists of the following four aims:

  • Work preparation training including; CV writing, interview preparation techniques & interview skills.
  • Functional skills training which involves attending Maths and English lessons with qualified tutors to gain the subject qualification up to Level 2.
  • An NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Customer Service.
  • An experience of work placement, totalling over 100 hours.

Upon a successful outcome of the programme trainees will be better placed to go into further education, an apprenticeship or employment.

As part of the programme the trainees will gain a minimum of 100 hours work experience on a placement with professional employers in Sheffield. Whilst on placement they can apply skills acquired during the study of their Customer Service qualification with ourselves.

Placements opportunities include various roles at SWFC, and with other employers in Sheffield. These currently include Places for People Leisure Centres, SIV, McDonalds and John Lewis. We will have a list of employers supporting the programme, where the trainee can choose what placement they would be interested in.
