Today (8 March 2017) we are celebrating International Women’s Day!
Honoring Millie Kenyon (21), a local Sheffield talent and our chosen inspirational female Community Staff Member.
Her football journey began back in primary school when Millie was introduced to the sport.
Millie’s love for the game progressed into secondary school, playing for her first ever football team, Steel City U12s.
Last Season, Millie was selected to join the Sheffield United Ladies team where she continues to be apart of the squad.
Millie is a key member of staff at Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme as she coaches the under 13 SWFC Girls Development team on a Monday night.
Her success and experience in woman’s football allows her to be a mentor and inspirational figure to the girls.
She also works with the Community Programme within schools, using football related games and activities to introduce the sport to young people across Sheffield.
Millie enjoys seeing the improvement and increase in confidence from both the school sessions and the Wednesday U13 Girls.
She states that, ”my aim is to inspire young female footballers to get involved in sport, and give them the confidence to do so.”
Millie wishes to progress onto higher leagues of football, and continue to provide inspiration and support to young female footballers.
Isobel Dunn, Premier League Coordinator, adds, ”Millie is a vital member of the SWFCCP delivery team, she has a great passion for football and this shows in her work. Millie provides a positive role model to the women and girls on our programme, proving that if you set your mind, you can achieve anything.”
