On Saturday 27th January, the Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme hosted a Regional KICKS Cup, at Sheffield Parkwood Academy, for clubs to attend from the North of England.

The turnout was fantastic, with 10 clubs making the Journey to Sheffield to take part in the competition. These clubs included Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Sunderland, Barnsley, Doncaster, Hull, Rotherham, Derby, Sheffield United and ourselves, Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday invited 12 young people that attend the KICKS Programme, to take part in the competition, to represent Wednesday, and to play against the other KICKS clubs. Those participating relished in the opportunity and found it a great experience.

Despite the poor weather, all young people and watchers kept engaged throughout, and in respectable and happy spirits.

Many parents, family and friends came to watch and support their young ones take part in the competition. With lots enjoying the Smoothie Bike and Arts and Craft’s Workshop which was ran by Chillipep.

Teams took part in two separate leagues, with the winners from each playing one another in a winner’s final, and the runners-up playing in a runners-up final.

After some highly competitive matches, the two winning teams came from Middlesbrough and Newcastle.

Sheffield Wednesday would like to say a huge congratulations to be them, and a massive thank you for all the teams that made the journey to Sheffield to take part in the competition.
