Aiden Frost and Joshua Snape are two young people that the SWFCCP KICKS team have been working with for a number of years now. Both young people come from different communities and backgrounds, but come together through their love for football and helping the community!
Aiden and Josh both live in a communities that face challenges, however they have used their personality and character to help other young people in Sheffield through many hours of volunteering. Both originally attended the KICKS sessions for different reasons and in different areas. Aiden began attending the SWFCCP KICKS Youth Club, whereas Joshua who attended the Parkwood Academy KICKS sessions. Over the years, both young people developed a very strong relationship with the KICKS staff and as a result have both been offered the opportunity to volunteer at friendlies, tournaments and other SWFCCP events.
Through attending the Youth Club Aiden and Joshua, who previous did not know each other have now developed a keen friendship and are extremely enthusiastic to take advantage of the mentoring opportunities they are receiving from the PL Kicks staff. After attending the Youth Club together for around 6 months, they have both developed various skills and are receiving more responsibilities. These included helping with registration, the tuck shop and supporting on the sports activities.
This boosted both of their confidence levels and became massive role models themselves amongst other young people at the SWFCCP Youth Club KICKS sessions. From this, both felt encouraged to volunteer over the 2019 summer holidays. They volunteered and completed well over 100 hours over the summer holidays.
Aiden said: “I think coming to the Youth Club and Parkwood sessions has made me more confident as a person. I look up to the staff and when I became a volunteer it really changed me. Helping over the 6-week holidays has taught me what it is like to have important roles as a volunteer. I’ve learnt to look after myself as well as other kids”.
Joshua’s father added: “Josh is an energetic person whose confidence has come on leaps and bounds since he has been involved and working with you. His journey is going in the right direction and is hoping to achieve a place on a college course with SWFC.”
