A talented Sheffield College student studying at Sheffield Wednesday Education Centre, has participated in the Regional College Golf Tournament and has now been offered a scholarship to play oversees with College Sponsorships USA.

Second year BTEC Level 3 Football Development student, Ryan Stopford (17), arrived into York on Wednesday 4th October for the Regional College Tournament.

Stopford played exceptionally throughout the day, but to his dismay brushed away one shot, therefore just missing out on 4th place and putting him at 5th overall.

His performance at the tournament combined with his progress in his College course at Sheffield Wednesday, has generated interest from scholarship programme College Sponsorship USA.

The oversees company provide talented students and athletes the opportunity to study at American university and compete in college sports.

In Ryan’s case he will be sponsored to study and participate in high-level golfing tournaments in the United States.

This is a great opportunity for Ryan as, “College golf is an ideal platform to take your game to the next level, but at the same time getting a degree.”

Stopford is excited about pursuing his dreams oversees, after he’s completed his BTEC, and thanks Sheffield Wednesday College for laying the solid foundations for his successful future career playing professional golf.

Amazing achievement Ryan!
