Sheffield Wednesday’s Education Programme have launched a brand new Esports course in partnership with The Sheffield College and underpinned by British Esports Association. The Esports industry is a fast-growing global industry projected to reach a market value of 1.79 billion US dollars by 2022 in which the BTEC has been developed to meet the demand for skills in esports.

The Pearson BTEC Level 3 National in Esports is a two-year programme and is ideal for anyone over 16 who wishes to pursue a career within the Esports, enterprise, marketing, and IT industries. Whilst studying at Hillsborough Stadium learners will earn the chance to take part in the British Esports Championships competing against other schools and colleges across the UK in Overwatch, League of legends and Rocket League.

The full-time course will provide an in-depth study of the following areas;

  • Industry knowledge and practice
  • Esports skills, strategies, and analysis
  • Enterprise and entrepreneurship
  • Event planning and management
  • Employability skills
  • Marketing techniques
  • Video and games design

The qualifications allow learners to progress into higher education degree programmes such as BA Hons in Events Management, BA Hons in Esports and BA Hons in Media along with other higher education programmes. Some examples of careers the qualification can lead are as an Esports player, events organiser, or video production editor.
