Adam Ledger (right) and Callum Douglas (left) have been celebrating alongside the rest of the UK’s university goers this summer after completing their BSc (Hons) Football Coaching, Development and Administration degree at Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme. In partnership with EFL Trust and the University of South Wales, they have achieved an outstanding 1st and 2:1 certification.

Their academic journey started once again at SWFC, as they studied at the grounds for their Foundation Degree in Community Football Coaching and Development, where they continued on to complete their top up degree.

Since obtaining their highly respected degrees, both graduates have gained full time employment at the Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme, with Ledger being promoted to NCS Assistant Coordinator and Douglas as Education Assistant and Head Futsal Coach. Douglas has now been enrolled on a PGCE course where he hopes to become a fully qualified teacher.

Ledger (24) and Douglas’ (21) success have been widely celebrated throughout the Community Programme department, as both have acted as strong role models and mentors to current students. Showing that hard work and determination can lead to full time employment, even at your local football club.

Ledger describes his experience, ”completing this degree programme gave me an excellent opportunity to work full time, along side completing my degree. I was able to fit it around my work and personal life, as all of the lectures are accessed online. Without this opportunity, I wouldn’t have been able to complete the degree, gain a first class honours, and continue progress at Sheffield Wednesday FC.”

Douglas states the course has, ”given me the perfect platform to develop myself as an individual as well as opportunities to gain hands on experience within a sporting workplace.”

”By completing this course at Sheffield Wednesday it has provided a professional environment to work in and has allowed me to speak to and work alongside experienced members of staff both in the education and coaching aspect of the club.”
